Welcome to JYFA Tackle Football

Tackle football is more than just a game. It is an opportunity for young athletes to learn teamwork, discipline, responsibility, perseverance, and the value of working together toward a common goal.

The Jeffco Youth Football Association (JYFA) provides a structured tackle football program designed to introduce young athletes to the fundamentals of the sport while creating a positive, competitive, and safe environment for players to develop.

Whether your child is playing football for the first time or has already fallen in love with the game, JYFA is committed to helping every player learn, compete, and grow.

What Is Tackle Football?

Tackle football is the traditional form of American football in which players use proper tackling techniques to bring ball carriers to the ground.

Players learn the complete game of football, including:

  • Running and receiving the football
  • Blocking and defeating blocks
  • Tackling and defensive techniques
  • Passing and pass coverage
  • Special teams
  • Offensive and defensive teamwork
  • Game strategy and situational football

Football is a highly coordinated team sport. Every player has a role, and success depends on players learning to trust and rely on one another.

More Than Just Football

JYFA believes youth football should help develop the whole athlete.

Through participation, players learn important lessons that extend well beyond the football field:

Teamwork
Players learn that individual effort matters, but the team comes first.

Discipline
Football requires players to listen, learn, practice, and consistently do their job.

Accountability
Players learn to take responsibility for their preparation, effort, decisions, and performance.

Perseverance
Football teaches athletes to respond to mistakes, overcome challenges, and keep working.

Respect
Players are expected to respect teammates, coaches, opponents, officials, and the game itself.

Confidence
Learning new skills, competing, and overcoming challenges helps young athletes develop confidence in themselves.

Learning the Game

Youth football is a progression.

Players are introduced to the fundamentals and gradually develop their football knowledge and skills as they advance through the program.

Coaches teach players:

  • How to play their position
  • How to work with their teammates
  • How to understand offensive and defensive concepts
  • How to practice safely and effectively
  • How to prepare for competition
  • How to handle both success and adversity

The goal is not simply to win today's game. The goal is to help players become better football players and better teammates each season.

Safety Comes First

JYFA takes player safety seriously.

Football is a physical sport, and contact is part of the game. However, teaching players how to properly perform contact, blocking, and tackling techniques is an essential part of youth football.

JYFA programs emphasize:

  • Proper fundamentals
  • Age-appropriate instruction
  • Proper equipment
  • Safe practice environments
  • Coaching education
  • Following established JYFA rules and procedures
  • Respect for the physical well-being of every player

Parents should understand that tackle football involves physical contact. At the same time, properly coached football teaches players how to perform that contact within the rules of the game.

The Role of Coaches

Youth football coaches have an important responsibility.

JYFA coaches are not only teaching football. They are working with young athletes during an important stage of their development.

Coaches should provide:

  • Positive instruction
  • Clear expectations
  • Consistent discipline
  • Age-appropriate coaching
  • Proper football fundamentals
  • A team-first environment
  • Respect for players, opponents, and officials

Winning is part of competition, but player development and the experience of the athletes remain important priorities.

The Role of Parents

Parents are an important part of the JYFA football community.

The best youth football experience happens when coaches, players, and parents work together.

Parents can help by:

  • Supporting their athlete
  • Encouraging effort rather than focusing only on results
  • Allowing coaches to coach
  • Respecting officials and opponents
  • Helping players arrive prepared and on time
  • Supporting the team
  • Reinforcing good sportsmanship

Your child will remember the experience of playing football long after they forget the final score.
