7v7 FOOTBALL
7v7 Football
Welcome to JYFA 7v7 Football(Srring)
7v7 football is a fast-paced, non-contact form of football that gives young athletes an opportunity to develop important football skills in a fun, competitive environment.
JYFA 7v7 football is played during the Spring season, providing athletes with an opportunity to stay involved with football, develop their skills, and continue learning the game outside of the traditional tackle football season.
The Jeffco Youth Football Association (JYFA) offers 7v7 as a way for players to learn and develop fundamental football skills while experiencing the teamwork, competition, and excitement of the game.
7v7 is an excellent introduction to football for new players and a valuable development opportunity for athletes who already play tackle football.
What Is 7v7 Football?
7v7 football is a non-contact version of the game that focuses primarily on passing, receiving, route running, defensive coverage, and football awareness.
With fewer players on the field and no tackling, players have more opportunities to participate directly in each play.
Players learn skills such as:
- Passing
- Catching
- Route running
- Defensive coverage
- Reading the offense
- Reading defensive formations
- Communication
- Footwork and movement
- Position-specific fundamentals
- Teamwork and football awareness
The format creates a fast-moving game where players are constantly involved and learning.
A Spring Football Opportunity
The JYFA 7v7 season takes place in the Spring.
This gives young athletes an opportunity to continue developing their football skills during the offseason and prepare for future football seasons.
For players who participate in tackle football, 7v7 can provide valuable additional repetitions without the physical contact of the traditional tackle season.
For players who are new to football, the Spring 7v7 season can be a great way to learn the game, develop fundamental skills, and gain confidence before deciding whether tackle football is right for them.
A Great Way to Learn Football
One of the biggest advantages of 7v7 is the number of opportunities players receive to participate.
Instead of relying on a traditional full-team formation, 7v7 places players in situations where they must understand their individual responsibilities while working with their teammates.
Players learn to:
- Get open
- Defend receivers
- Read the field
- Communicate with teammates
- Make decisions quickly
- Understand space
- Execute routes
- Recognize defensive coverage
- Work together as an offensive or defensive unit
These skills can become valuable building blocks for players who eventually move into tackle football.
Non-Contact Football
7v7 is designed as a non-contact form of football.
There is no tackling, blocking, or traditional line play. Instead, plays are generally stopped through the rules of the 7v7 format.
This allows athletes to develop football skills and understanding without the physical contact associated with tackle football.
Players are still expected to compete with intensity while maintaining good sportsmanship and respect for their teammates and opponents.
More Opportunities for Players
Because 7v7 uses fewer players than traditional tackle football, athletes can have more opportunities to participate during a game.
Players may spend significant time:
- Running routes
- Catching passes
- Playing defensive coverage
- Communicating with teammates
- Reading the quarterback
- Reading receivers
- Making plays in space
This makes 7v7 an excellent environment for developing individual skills and confidence.
Developing Football IQ
Football is not just about physical ability.
Players must understand what is happening around them and make decisions quickly.
7v7 gives athletes an opportunity to develop their football IQ by learning how to:
- Recognize formations
- Understand defensive coverage
- Find open space
- Anticipate routes
- Read the quarterback
- Communicate defensive assignments
- Adjust to what the opponent is doing
These are skills that can benefit players at every level of football.
More Than Just Football
Like all JYFA programs, 7v7 is about more than the scoreboard.
Players have the opportunity to develop:
Teamwork
Every play requires players to work together.
Communication
Players must communicate assignments, adjustments, and expectations.
Confidence
Repeated opportunities to catch, throw, defend, and compete help players build confidence.
Discipline
Players learn to understand and execute their responsibilities.
Competition
Players learn how to compete while respecting their teammates and opponents.
Football IQ
Players develop a better understanding of how the game works.
The Role of Coaches
