Become a JMFA Football Official

JMFA is looking for adults to become football officials. We also have an paid intern program for active high school players ages 16-18. We'll train you and work around your schedule when possible.

Being a JMFA Official is a great way to earn some extra money and give back to the community at the same time. Officials earn between $30-$55 per game and its possible to call 3 or 4 games on a Saturday. Register by clicking on the officials tab on the left side of the JMFA home page. If you have questions, please email Gene Moisey at

Mandatory Play
by posted 11/08/2008

RULE 20: MANDATORY PLAY.
1.  All players participating in JMFA shall participate in every game including playoffs and the Carnation Bowl, with the following minimum play requirements:
a.       All players, regardless of grade (2nd - 8th grades)
b.       15 plays including kickoff, kickoff return and extra point conversions.
2.  Reasons for not participating in mandatory play are:
a.       Illness
b.      Injury
c.       Unexcused absent one practice (or more) per week without cause
d.      Poor school performance as related by the parent
e.      Attitude (justifiable), and
f.        Official ejection.
3. If a child is not eligible prior to the start of the game, the player eligibility form must be completed and present at the pre-game meeting of the head coaches. Players who are ineligible are not required to meet this rule.

4.  If a player becomes ill, is injured or has an attitude problem at any point during the game, the head coach shall notify the head official and the play-counters who will note the minimum play count sheet. In this case, the Area Director will exercise final say if a violation of this rule is alleged.

5. Each area shall provide one scorekeeper/play counters. That person will be part of the "officiating crew", along with timekeeper, and chains personnel.

6.  Each play counter (one per team per game) is required to use the league-standard play-counting sheet. Play counting sheets are to be signed by each play counter at the conclusion of the game.

7.  All play counters are to meet at midfield at the beginning of halftime to consolidate notes and agree on status of all players. This shall take place in the presence of the head referee. Play counters will then inform their respective head coaches of status of all players before the start of the 3rd quarter.

8.  Failure to comply with mandatory play shall not be a forfeitable offense in the regular season

9.  Failure to comply with mandatory play in the playoffs or Carnation Bowl shall result in a forfeit. The JMFA County Board shall provide play counters at the Carnation Bowl.

10.  Failure of coach to comply with the mandatory play rule shall be reported in writing to the Area President and team manager, or appointed team representative keeping account of players and plays. This complaint is to be delivered to the respective coach along with a warning.

a.     The Area Director at his/her discretion may review film to determine that the play count violation did/did not occur.

11.  A second reported offense should be brought before the board or its designated committee. If the committee or board determines that the coach in question has violated the mandatory play rule, then the coach shall be barred from participation or attendance at the team's next game.

12.  A third reported offense, with a determination by the Area President or designated committee that the coach in question has violated the mandatory play rule, shall result in the coach being barred from coaching in the JMFA program for the remainder of the calendar year and an additional one calendar year beginning on January 1 the following year.

13. Failure of play counter to sign play-counting sheet at conclusion of the game may result in one-week suspension for their team’s head coach, as determined by Area President/Director.

14. At NO TIME shall a coach approach a parent or player and make an agreement to reduce the number of plays one game and increase the number of plays in subsequent games to make up the difference.

a.     If it is determined by an Area Director and/or board that the above statement has occurred, the head coach of that team shall be suspended for one calendar year from the date of infraction.

Friendly Reminders
by posted 10/21/2008

Parents and coaches,

At many fields last week there were some issues and we would like to ask for your help in resolving them.

It is extremely important that there is emergency access to all football fields.  Please park only in designated parking spaces and DO NOT block gates or paths to fields.  In two instances last week injured players were left on fields while car owners were searched for to move vehicles to allow ambulance access.  Beginning this weekend police will be called to write tickets and have vehicles towed that are parked in these areas.  Please park smart.

Please remember that all of us in JMFA are volunteers.  Please clean up the garbage from your sidelines before leaving a field.

Turf fields – we have access to more turf fields this year and would like to continue to be able to use these fields. ONLY WATER is allowed on turf fields. Please do not bring any food, seeds, Gatorade, juice or fruit onto these fields. Anything other than water causes bacteria to grow and will damage the field and result in the loss of the use of the fields.

Please leave your dogs at home. Many of the fields we use do not allow dogs and it is posted at the parks and schools as such.   Additionally we had an instance of a beautiful sweet golden retriever lying peacefully next to a parents chair when a big tackle occurred right in front of the dog and parent which carried the two players out of bounds. This mellow dog snapped and sunk his teeth into the thigh of one of the players. Thankfully the child was unharmed as the dog got thigh pad but it could have been different. The best pet in the world is still a dog by nature and can be unpredictable in new and unfamiliar situations.

Thank you for your attention to and cooperation with these issues.

Good luck to all this season!

Schedule access
by posted 10/21/2008

Schedules are up -

Please note that there may be some slight location changes that happen over the course of the next week or beyond should we encounter any field issues (from one field to another within an area - ie: SJ-D to SJ-N).

Once we are fairly certain that any shifts have happened we will switch the schedules to live.

What this means to you:

If a game is moved, delayed or cancelled you will receive an email notification. If you have set up txt messaging in you member account on your home area website you will also receive a txt message. If you need to enable txt messaging please contact your team manager or:

1.   Go to your home area website

2.   From the homepage select the “Edit My Account” tab at the bottom of the left menu

3.   Log into your family account

4.   Select the individual to edit and click the name

5.   In the Cell phone field enter your cell number

6.   In the drop down box to the right of the number select your carrier

7.   Submit the form.

Please note that if a single cell number is in more than one family record and in one or more records it is set to “No Text Messages” you will NOT receive txt messages. The “No” preference will override the carrier on another record.

To access your team schedule

1.     go to your member area website and select the "Teams" tab at the top of the page.

2.     Then select your team from the dropdown menus.

3.     Once you are on your team page select "Schedule" or "Calendar" from the left menu.
